 Major General Anastasios POLYCHRONOS

Major General Anastasios Polychronos was born in Athens in 1967. He entered the Hellenic Army Academy in 1985 and graduated in 1989, as an Artillery Second Lieutenant.

He completed all the mandatory training programs related to his branch of service, including the Supreme War College and the National Defense School.

Throughout his career, he served in various Artillery Units. He held positions such as Unit Commander in the 80th Anti Aircraft Artillery Corps (Kos), Artillery Commander in the 79th Military Command of Samos, and Director of Operations at the General Staff of the Army.

As a senior officer (Brigadier General), he assumed the role of Director of Military Education at the Hellenic Army Academy in 2019 and Director of Crisis Management at the Hellenic National Defense General Staff from 2020 to 2022.

In 2022, he was promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed as the Deputy Commander at the General Inspectorate for Doctrine and Training within the Hellenic National Defense General Staff. On March 8, 2023, he was assigned as the Superintendent of the Hellenic Army Academy. He has received all the officially prescribed decorations, medals, and commendations.

He holds a postgraduate degree in “Systematic Philosophy” from the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as a doctoral degree in History of the Department of History and Archaeolog y at the same university. His thesis is titled “The Virtues of the Warrior and the Ethics of War from the 7th to the 4th Century B.C.” He has published two monographs on military history and served as an expert lecturer for the course “Military History Operations Analysis” at the Hellenic Army Academy.

Major General Anastasios Polychronos is proficient in the English language. Lastly, he is married and has one daughter.
