Joint Postgraduate Program
entitled:
“SECURE TELECOMMUNICATION AND NETWORK SYSTEMS”

A collaboration between the
Department of Informatics and Telecommunications
of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)
and the Higher School of Telecommunications and Electronics Signal Officers (STHAD)
of the Hellenic Army General Staff.


1. Program Objective

The aim of the Joint Postgraduate Program (JPP) is to provide specialized postgraduate-level knowledge in the fields of secure telecommunications and network systems, as well as their modern technological applications, with emphasis on defense technology.


2. The JPP has a strong scientific character with the purpose of:

a. Equipping the students of STHAD with the necessary knowledge and skills (analysis, design, implementation, and research) to become experts in secure telecommunications and network systems, tailored to the needs of the Ministry of National Defense.

b. Promoting scientific cooperation and synergy between the Ministry of National Defense and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), through the JPP, involving both STHAD and the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications in this field.


Postgraduate Degree

The JPP awards a Postgraduate Diploma (MSc) in “Secure Telecommunications and Network Systems” in the following specializations:

  1. Telecommunications Systems

  2. Network Systems


Candidate Categories

Eligible for the program are graduates of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Military Academies (ASEI), who are currently cadets of STHAD, in accordance with its regulations.

The maximum number of admitted students per academic cycle of STHAD is twenty-five (25).


Duration of Study

The study duration for obtaining the MSc through the JPP is three (3) academic semesters.


Curriculum

  1. Attendance of all courses is mandatory and they are conducted during the regular academic year of STHAD, including the necessary teaching hours as required by the JPP. If daily scheduling becomes unfeasible for any reason, makeup sessions will be arranged.

  2. Teaching consists of lectures, seminars, group discussions, exercises, assignments, studies, examinations, laboratories, and other educational and research activities. All teaching and research activities are mandatory for all students.


Course Subjects

1st Semester of the JPP: STHAD organizes the following indicative five (5) preparatory courses, labeled with [P] codes:

  • [P11]: Telecommunications Electronics & Electronics Lab

  • [P12]: Computer Hardware and Architecture

  • [P13]: Digital Signal Processing for Telecommunications – Matlab

  • [P14]: Photonics

  • [P15]: Antennas – Wireless Links
