Major General Vasileios Lampropoulos was born in 1971 in Athens. He was joined to the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon) in 1988 and graduated in 1992 as Armor Second Lieutenant.
He attended all the schools and training institutions of his branch, including the Military Intelligence Analyst School, the Hellenic Army Command and General Staff College (HACGSC), which has been renamed the Hellenic Army War College, the Supreme Joint War College, the NATO Defense College (Senior Course 131) and the Defense Academy of the United Kingdom (Senior Strategic Leadership Programme (SSLP)).
During his career he served in Armored units, holding command and staff positions at all levels, as well as duties as Head of the 2nd and 3rd Staff Offices. He served as Deputy Commander of a unit in the 80th National Guard Higher Military Command (Kos), Section Head of the 2nd Staff Office of the Armor – Cavalry Directorate / Army General Staff, Commander of the 395 Armor Battalion (Rhodes), Section Head of the 1st Staff Office in the Hellenic Army Chief’s Executive Office, Defense Attaché (DA) and Military Attaché at the Embassy of Greece in Washington, and Chief of Staff of the XII Mechanized Infantry Division “EVROS”.
As a senior officer (Brigadier General), he served as Commander of the XXIII Armored Brigade “3rd Cavalry – DORYLAION”, as Director at the Coordination Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff (DoS), and as Chief of Staff of the D’ Army Corps “THRACE” (later renamed as the Supreme Military Command of Thrace).
He was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2026 and was appointed Superintendent of the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon).
He has been awarded all the prescribed decorations, medals, and commendations. In addition, he has been honored by the United States with the Legion of Merit medal.
He holds postgraduate degrees in “Governance, Security and Development in the Mediterranean” from the University of the Aegean and in “Applied Strategy and International Security” from Plymouth University of the United Kingdom.
He speaks English, French, and Italian.
He is married and has one son.
