On Tuesday, November 23th, 2021, in the presence of the Chief of the General Staff of the Army Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis, the naming ceremony of the open athletics field of the Hellenic Army Academy, in Vari Attica, was held as “CHARALAMPOS KAMITSIS STADIUM”, in memory of the Physical Education Professor of SSE from 1960 to 1993, Charalambos Kamitsis.
Charalambos Kamitsis, who passed away on February 28th, 2015, was a pioneer in Military Sports and Physical Education. He served his military service as a Reserve Second Lieutenant in 1955-1957, graduated from the National Academy of Physical Education in 1955 and was a Professor of Physical Education at the Military School of Physical Education in Chalkida from 1957 to 1960. From 1960 to 1993- then he retired, he was a Professor of Physical Education at SSE while simultaneously writing educational aids on matters of military sports and physical education for the Cadets. In addition, he was a member of the Speakers group of the International Olympic Academy and participated as a representative of the Reserve Officers of Greece in the Games Committee of CIOR and CIOMR (Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers – Interallied Confederation of Medical Reserve Officers) of NATO from 1986 until 2009, both at the organizational conferences and at the Panmilitary Games in Europe and the USA. He was also a member of the Organizing Committee and director of the CIOR military games in the years 1986 and 1999, when the games and conferences were held in our country. In recognition of his work and contribution, SSE had awarded him the title of Honorary Professor of the Academy.
The ceremony was also attended by the Metropolitan of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni and Vari Mr. Antonios, the Deputy Mayor of Vari, Voula, Vouliagmeni Ms. Maria Kanellou, the wife of the late Mr. Theodora Kamitsi as well as his daughters Vasiliki, Maria and Iliana Kamitsi.
