Major General Georgios Kostidis was born in Kastoria in 1965.He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1983 and graduated in 1987 as a Cavalry – Armor Second Lieutenant.
He attended all required Armor Officer Training Courses, the Hellenic Army War College (HAWC) and the Hellenic National Defense College (HNDC). He was awarded and honored all decorations, commendations and medals provided for his rank. He holds a Masters Degree in the Management of Operational Planning from the Nottingham Trent University. He is a fluent speaker of the English language.
As a Senior Officer, he served in Armored Corps Units. Following this he served as Commander of the 289th Tank Troop in Samothrace, the 6th Tank Battalion in Vironia, the 212th Tank Battalion in Lagos and as a Commander of NATO Operational Mentor and Liaison Team in Afghanistan.
He has served as Staff Officer in ISAF-HQ Operations in Afghanistan, as Director of the 3rd Staff Office (SO) in the 7th Mechanized Brigade, as Staff Officer in the South Eastern Europe Brigade Operations (SEEBRIG), as Chief of Section J7 NRDC-GR, as HQ Director of Operational Research in the Supreme Joint War College, as Second in Command of the 34th Mechanized Brigade and as Director of the Operations Division of the Greek First Army.
He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2017 and assigned as Commander of the Hellenic Force in Cyprus ELDYK/3/1 Supply and Transportation Directorate (S.T.D.)
Following promotion to Major General in 2019, he was assigned as Commander of the Supply Division (SD). In March 2020 he was assigned as Second in Command of the IV Army Corps. On 9 March 2021 he was assigned as Commandant of the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon).
He is married and has two sons.
